About this deal

I'm too mad to structure this properly, so this will just be a list of thoughts/things that infuriated me: I grinned and stepped up to the table, putting my fingers to my lips. “Shh, Marla. Don’t say my name too loudly. I’m incognito tonight.” Keirran, son of the Iron Queen, former prince of the Iron Court and King of the Forgotten, faced me calmly in the shadows cast by the Ferris wheel.

I have read all the books in this series and I have to say this was not the best book in the series. I’m not saying it was bad but it wasn’t the best. Its one of those book were your reading series and you have to read it to understand the next book. Nope, that’s me. I love hanging around abominations.” I grinned at her sour expression, though truthfully, I was surprised at the venom coming from the tiny gnome. Though the Iron fey still faced fear and distrust from the rest of the Nevernever, most residents of Faery had accepted they were here to stay. “But, uh, you are aware that we’ve been at peace with the Iron Court for years now, right? And that their queen is kind of a good friend of mine?” EXCLUSIVE COVERS: Fey-tastic covers with foil detailing — darker and more dramatic than the originals!

I smiled. “Hey, pooch,” I greeted. “Where did you come from?” It gave a small, hopeful yap, and I shrugged. “I don’t have any gears you can munch on, sorry.”

Yeah that's right, we get to hang out with Meghan again! We also see Ash, Kierran (briefly--he is much less ROMEO in this one and much more badass), and Grimalkin. I also loved the new characters! Nyx, a forgotten who used to protect The Lady, awoken from her slumber, an assassin with a tragic past, and Coaleater, a descendant from Iron Horse who serves to be the tank of the group. It is unknown if the original version of the Iron Ravens still exists, or has been ret-conned into this new version. I love Julie Kagawa and her style of writing but it did feel slightly monotonous as there were multiple scenes depicting, “Something dark had descended and turned normally peaceful creatures vengeful.” Then at about 80% of the book, they encounter a mysterious dark and make a decision to investigate it ( I honestly thought that’s what they were doing for the entire book before ????? )

It happened because I was far too useful to keep away for long, and Oberon knew it. And while it was comforting, in its own twisted way, that the Summer King would never truly get rid of me, there were times when I wished I could be free, even if that would leave me homeless.I sent out a request for Grimalkin, but he hasn’t answered.” Keirran shook his head with another frown. “Of course, Grimalkin will come only if he feels like it, and he’s decided not to show. I’m running out of options. Since I can’t go into the Nevernever myself, I figured I would come here to try to get a message to the Iron Court.” I stepped forward. “Since when do you have to rely on the goblin market to send messages to the Iron Realm, kid?” I asked loudly. “Did something happen that we don’t know about? Or are you in trouble again? Or both?” I shrugged. “Both is always an option, I’ve learned.” Except Kor’sarro Khan – who’s taken a break from the saddle to get a keener eye over the battlefield. With the bulk of your fast-movers seen to, a few squads of Assault Intercessors and a couple of Stormhawk Interceptors are all you need to round out a characterful White Scars army. I will admit no such thing,” the wine vendor snapped, and jabbed a withered finger in my direction. “Only that you are an incorrigible troublemaker and always up to no good. I don’t know why Lord Oberon hasn’t banished you permanently.” Then a spinoff/ continuation series came out, The Iron Fey: Call of the Forgotten. I didn’t love it, but it was fine. Then that was over. The bad guy was defeated. The heroes lived happily ever after. And it was over. Except it still wasn’t!

No problem, princeling.” I grinned, rubbing my hands together. “It’s been a while since I’ve been on a decent adventure. A trek into the Between sounds fun.” No. I’m not in any trouble, but…” Keirran hesitated, a slight furrow creasing his brow. “Something strange is happening in the Between,” he admitted. “There have been…incidents, with the Forgotten. Violent incidents, which is not like them at all. And the Between itself is… It doesn’t feel right, if that makes any sense.” He sighed, sounding frustrated and, for a moment, looking years younger. “I don’t know what’s going on, and that worries me,” he muttered. “I was hoping Mom or someone from the Iron Court would be able to help. I certainly can’t bring my concerns to Summer or Winter.” While it’s not strictly necessary to be familiar with the Iron Fey series which includes the four books of The Iron Fey (The Iron King, The Iron Daughter, The Iron Queen and The Iron Knight) and The Iron Fey: Call of Forgotten trilogy (The Lost Prince, The Iron Traitor and The Iron Warrior), plus various novellas, you do need to have read the first book of this spin-off series, The Iron Raven, to enjoy this direct sequel. If you liked the Iron Fey series you will love this, and if you haven't read Iron Fey yet I urge you to start, Like NOW!’ NetGalley reviewerThe gnome shot me a dark look, and I gave her a dreamy, overexaggerated smile. “Between us, I think Titania secretly misses me too much.” The ending is a compelling cliffhanger, leaving off with a prophecy that definitely let's the Reader know this adventure is far from over. A copy of the book was provided for review purposes - thank you! Receiving a copy does not guarantee a positive review and therefore does not affect the opinion or content of the review. The writing is still good and very easy to follow. It’s clean and crisp, but can’t really make up for the shortcomings of the narrative. Me, whenever Julie Kagawa releases a new Iron Fey series*: OMG! I am so excited, I need this now!! 😍😍
