About this deal

I'm pretty sure that this is the way I wired my Stebel. To be on the safe side, test the circuits with a voltmeter. Owning a digital multimeter is really handy for installing components such as a horn. This device will help you find continuity within wires if you cannot seem to power up the horn.

I separated the compressor from the trumpet, and installed the compressor in front of the battery in an upright position. I bought my second from … in Feb., 2012, and also had no problem with that on my Victory Cross Country Tour this year. From “P.E.” (May 2013): “I’ve sold hundreds of Stebel horns over the past 4-5 years. As best as I can recall, I’ve replaced two units that were reported to be defective. Once everything is connected, test your connections with a multi-meter if you have one. If not, turn on the ignition and press the horn button. You will now have a 139 dB horn that sounds like a semi rig! Be careful how you use it now, since it will scare the bejesus out of innocent pedestrians!UPDATE: See the Denali Soundbomb Horn Review. A nearly identical replacement for the Nautilus that works. Based on this and our experience with the other Stebel Nautilus we tried, we can only give this Nautilus a “Not Recommended”. I would estimate the Stebel horn on the VFR has seen roughly 15,000 miles from sweltering summers to cold winters and wet spring/autumn days.

It would be nearly impossible to mount anyway on the slim GT1000 and who knows how it would sound when the horn was pointed downwards, to keep out water, as the instructions indicate. At first glance I noticed the air ports on the S horn were not covered and were exposed to the outside of the engine. I compared it to my HD horn and found the HD horn had a chrome metal housing covering the air ports. I went ahead with the installation thinking nothing more of it. I have two, one that has been on a ’96 Honda VFR750 for a little more than two years and one that I just recently installed on a ’07 Buell XB12S. But it would be nearly impossible to mount anyway on the slim GT1000 and who knows how it would sound when the horn was pointed downwards, to keep out water, as the instructions indicate.

The original spade connectors that were connected to the horn should be connected to terminals 85 and 86 of the relay; For use off the road, there are a number of “funny” car horns that are available. Personally, the all time favorite and the best funny car horn has to be the Dixie horn, which is a car horn everyone loves. Upon inspection, one of the two functioned perfectly. Otherwise, I’ve heard from a very few people who jumped to the conclusion that they had a defective horn, but actually hadn’t grounded the horn to metal as required of any electrical device. If you don’t have the room to be able to do that then, yep, I’d go for something else. Given that I have been able to do that, however, I’ve been very pleased with the Stebel.” We didn’t even get a chance to run the big, red Stebel Nautilus Max through the sound level meter, so it’s uncertain how it would score against the other horns in this comparison article. It did seem loud while it lasted though, but it has an “air horn” quality that not everyone likesThe Wolo (519) Bad Boy is a popular replacement car horn that the brand claims is twice as loud as factory horns. It’s a one piece construction that’s easy to install and a direct replacement for many factory horns. In terms of the loudness, the brand states that it outputs at 118 dB using a powerful dual tone. From “A.C.” (December 2015): “I read your article on the Stebel nautilus review. I have this horn installed and yes it is bulky and difficult to deal with especially since you need a 30A circuit and you have to create a new one as opposed to using existing circuit. A couple strips of foam rubber provide vibration isolation and the horn appears to function just the same as the one on the VFR, if not slightly muffled due to the “closed” location behind the Fly Screen. Hint Two: adding a small piece of aluminum or steel “L” (a.k.a. angle iron) with a hole for the mounting bolt will prevent the horn bouncing off if the bolt loosens Star washers and jam nuts are a good addition. Conclusion
